How to build a log store
If you have an open hearth or a wood-burning stove, you’ll also need a stock of firewood. This needs to be dried before you can use it, and the best way to do that is outdoors in the open air. To protect the wood from rain and keep it dry, it’s a good idea to build a log store.
The best material to use for a firewood store is treated pine or larch with FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) approval. No further wood treatment is necessary, thanks to the environment-friendly impregnation method. The only things that need extra protection against rotting are the wooden posts that have to be sunk into the ground. The size of the posts and the cross-members is 9 x 9 cm.
Measure out where the posts are to be placed, and decide how wide and how high you want to make your store. A good general suggestion is 1.85 m high, 60 cm deep and 2 m wide. When buying the posts (or cutting them to size), remember they also have to be sunk into the ground by at least 30 cm.
